In Memory

Rita Ertel (Tate)

Deceased Classmate: Rita Ertel
Date Deceased: 11-28-2003
Age at Death: 52
Cause of Death: Complications due to a stroke
Classmate City: Davenport
Classmate State: IA
Classmate Country: USA
Survived By: her daughter, Melinda Tate, of Davenport; her sons, Garron and Logan, all of Davenport; her sisters, Therese Devlin and Marylou Strum, both of Davenport; and her brothers, Thomas Ertel, of Davenport, and Joseph Ertel, of Moline.

On March 19, 1971, Rita was united in marriage to Billie W. Tate, at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, Bettendorf. He preceded her in death on March 29, 1993. Rita was retired from nursing and had been employed at the former St. Luke's Hospital and Fejervary Healthcare Center, both in Davenport. She was a former Boy Scout and Girl Scout leader and remained active as a volunteer with the special needs programs at Eisenhower Elementary School, Davenport. Rita was one of those rare people that, no matter how long it had been since you last saw her, you could have a great conversation with. About 20 years ago, I renewed my friendship with Rita when we were both girl scout leaders. We were in the same service area, so we would see each other at leaders' meetings every few months. Like most of us, Rita had a lot of ups and downs in life, but inspite of it all, she remained optimistic and enthusiastic about life.

Rita's eldest son, Tony is missing from the list of surviving children. Tony Jason Tate was her eldest son and did not die until after her passing.
